Alex Brandreth last appeared in Wealth Manager’s Top 100 in 2018, when he was deputy chief investment officer at Brown Shipley. This year sees his return to the list, as assets run by his boutique Luna, which he co-founded in 2020, topped the minimum £500m threshold.
In addition to coordinating the firm’s overall investment strategy, he is also the lead manager of Luna’s model portfolio service. He says his best investment call this year has been an underweight in fixed income, used to fund an overweight in alternatives.
‘The selloff in bonds this year has been savage, holding good quality alternatives that have delivered has helped performance, particularly for lower risk portfolios,’ he notes. ‘We have also had a significant exposure to UK equities.’
His advice to younger investors is to be patient, both with markets and with your career.
