Multi-manager portfolio expert Derek Beatty has now been working in investment management for 20 years, selecting funds across various asset classes, geographies and sectors.
Hailing from Ireland, he holds a master’s degree in corporate finance and accounting from University College Cork, as well as a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance from University College Dublin. He made the move to Guernsey in 2002, joining BWCI Group as an investment analyst.
After a 10-year spell with Credit Suisse, Beatty has been running multi-manager portfolios for Julius Baer since 2016. The best performer in the last 12 months was the Man GLG Emerging Markets Debt Absolute Return fund, with the Polar Capital Biotechnology fund the most recent addition.
If Beatty could give one piece of advice to younger investors, it would be that if you don’t understand it, do not invest in it.
