Specialism:

Gavin O'Neill has worked at Boolers since 2004, transitioning into discretionary investment management from advice. He became a partner in the firm in 2012 and was promoted to head of investments last year, overseeing the company's investment management.

His best investment decisions this year have been cutting back on emerging markets exposure prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as increasing FTSE 100 exposure to benefit from the high oil price.

However, he notes: ‘One disappointment has been not adding infrastructure sooner than we did!’ In his view, infrastructure spending is significant and growing and he believes ‘the whole energy transition theme will be a major benefactor’.

In a recessionary environment, he would also plan on allocating to value equity funds.
