Marcus Blyth timed his entry into the finance industry extremely well, joining GAM in 2007. He spent over three years there, before fund selection stints at Architas and what was then Kleinwort Benson.

He has now been with Investec Wealth & Investment for seven years, where he is responsible for fund selection within UK, Asia and emerging markets equities. His best investment call this year has been decreasing the growth bias in model portfolios, favouring more value-oriented investments. He also notes that the alternative holdings have provided true uncorrelated returns and added material levels of alpha.

Blyth’s advice to younger investors would be to take the time to fully understand the opportunity and risks of an investment, and not to be fooled by a good story.

If he was not in fund selection, he would be a cameraperson for wildlife documentaries.
