
Matthew Stanesby joined Close Brothers in 2007, following almost two decades in investment consulting.
His career in investment started at Mercer Investments in 1989, and he later joined Aon Hewitt as senior investment consultant in 1998.
He says the dominant trend over the next five years is likely to be ‘adapting to a new environment where interest rates are not artificially low and inflation has to be considered, on top of changes caused by climate transition’.
The BlackRock World Energy fund has been Stanesby’s best performer this past year, and the fund manager now has 20% of his portfolio in alternatives, including real estate and private equity, which have delivered him positive returns when both equities and bonds have not.
