Stephen Peters has been a portfolio manager at Barclays W&I for close to six years. Prior to that he spent nine years as a fund research analyst at Charles Stanley.  

He says that his top investment call over the past year was holding on to value equities, with Jupiter’s UK Special Situations fund leading the charge. The £2.1bn strategy, managed by Ben Whitmore, has returned 6.9% in the year to the end of August, far outpacing the sector average return of a 4.9% loss.

Peters believes ESG will be the top investment theme over the next five years, and he himself is trying to be more environmentally conscious by adopting a ‘meat-free Mondays’ policy.  

Peters said that had he not pursued a career in wealth management, he would have enjoyed being a BBC Sussex sports journalist covering Sussex Cricket and Brighton & Hove Albion.
